The Fabulous Red Diesel bring their life philosophy to everybody with the ‘Mama Josie Said’ music video

A husband and wife on vocals and drums, a transgender trumpeter and a double bassist, and a synth-player/guitarist named Rabbi Jaffa DeliciousThe Fabulous Red Diesel are a band like no other. Based in Hastings, they have built up a loyal fanbase, not only through their live shows, which have seen them supporting the likes of Skunk Anansie and Jeff Buckley, but also their unique sound, fusing classic 60’s Soul with Jazz arrangements and a rhythm section which can skip from hip-hop beats to Latin Funk. Following the success of their six-week playlist spot on Jazz FM and their critically-acclaimed Brighton Fringe show, the collective is on a mission to bring art to everyone, aided by their new single ‘Mama Josie Said‘. Spin it below.

Mama Josie Said‘ is the band’s call to all aspiring creatives waiting to be led by example. Whether in Trapeze work, projected visuals, contemporary dance, or in their music itself, the band’s followers are led on a creative trip at a breakneck pace by four members who pride themselves on their pursuit of art for the love of it, through a flexible range of various mediums.

Putting this philosophy into practice, The Fabulous Red Diesel live by the Seattle Noise-Punk legends Fugazi‘s ideas that live music should be open for all to experience, regardless of income. The band are performing their live shows in Pop-Up Theaters at Broomgrove Estate and the Coastal Current Arts Festival in Hastings to allow those who are unlikely to enjoy live music to find new inspiration and excitement from the sublime Jazz band.

For fans of Khruangbin, the slow-moving and hypnotic sounds of the soft bass guitar on ‘Mama Josie Said’ will appeal to the moment when you need to take a step back and chill away from busy tasks. The track itself paves the way for Ms. Kitty’s (Kat Lee-Ryan) chiming vocals to drift gently above the subdued Trumpet melodies and the stripped-back drum melodies to complement the easy-going, laidback vibes nicely. A subtle Flute solo is added for good measure for a track that puts the band’s mission in the front and centre of the frame at its core.
