Sound of the Underground (no that’s not a reference to the 2003 Girls Aloud single)

Here marks the first of many Sound of the Underground features, a section dedicated to championing the best of independent & underground urban music that we can almost guarantee you haven’t heard yet, but can almost guarantee you’ll love.

Paxe’s 2020 single No Pain has become a strong contender for my song of the summer. No Pain was my introduction to the recently rebranded London artist, previously known as ‘Pins47’.

A 15 second clip of No Pain that popped up on my instagram feed one boring Wednesday was all it took to take me straight to Spotify, and add the bouncy track to my frequented playlists. I imagine I account for an estimated 10% of ‘No Pain’s’ 100,000 Spotify stream milestone.

The track is rhythmic, punchy and accompanied by an addictive bass line, a feature rarely seen in the UK urban scene. With just a handful of singles in his released catalogue the best is yet to come from Paxe, we’ll be keeping a close and anticipated eye on this one.
