Urban Radar’s Weekend Soundtrack: What We’re Listening to This Weekend

A mix of the old the new, established and unsigned. Released every Friday to help you soundtrack your weekend with only the best tunes.

1. Mike Dadio – Fake n Dat

From the streets of Ghana to the airwaves of London, producer Mike Dadio has fueled the cloud rap scene with his release of ‘Fake n Dat’. With rhythms that draw from his African roots, Mike lets the synths and drums guide him and combined with his influences from greats Wiskid, Davido and Burna Boy, ‘Fake n Dat’ is a bass heavy, afro-beat track is an urban must.

2. Loyle Carner ft. Jorja Smith – Loose Ends

Two of the UK’s most promising stars and recognisable faces — Loyle Carner and Jorja Smith — have come together for their much-awaited first collaboration. Loyle brought his typical brand of personal lyrics, reminiscing on his past struggles and the people around him. The themes of the song can be summarised in one line from the chorus: “a lot of people that I wish I knew then” and combined with Jorja’s crisp, soulful vocals the track is a definite too add to your chill playlist this weekend.

3. JAMERICAN – Step In A The Club

With a mission to bring back the ‘booyaka’ , JAMERICAN combines dancehall, reggae and hip hop in his latest release ‘Step In A The Club’ – a journey into Miami’s nightlife which is so intoxicating, you’d swear you were there. A bestie of Nicole Scherzinger, JAMERICAN has opened shows for artists like Beenie Man and Elephant Man and is hitting the urban scene hard this year.

4. Octavian ft. Skepta, Michael Phantom – Bet

Now collaborating with the grime heavyweight Skepta, Octavian can no longer be called just an ‘up and coming rapper’. Over a four beat melody and a simple trap beat, you hear the change up in vocals with verses from all three artists. The bass-heavy rolls out the same beat and melody throughout and makes ‘Bet’ a fundamentally catchy track whose beats will lay out a chill foundation to your weekend.
